Jackson County Residents Opposed to Richton Salt Dome

More than 30 county residents appeared before the Jackson County supervisors Monday to request the board take action against a proposed oil storage facility in the Richton Salt Dome.

The board decided to withhold any action until its Jan. 7 meeting.

I plan to be at the meeting voicing my opposition to a project that is environmentally unsound.

I am very much opposed to the plan to use the Richton Salt Dome to store oil. I feel quite confident there are alternatives (which probably have not been explored) that would not destroy a pristine river and the area of the Mississippi Sound that would be affected by this project. We need to stand together and fight this. I've been told that Gene Taylor will oppose the project if we can get 10,000 signatures on a petition. Let's do it!

I'll be happy to sign a petition.

I have been told that online petitions don't count. Does anyone know if this is true?

If they do count I would be happy to research setting up an online petition.

I am also working on a letter to the editor of the local paper and something to send to our elected officials.
